Arild Askeland
Norwegian, B. 1954
Arild Askeland is educated in Visual Communication, Exhibition Design and Art History. Most of the artist’s oeuvre is abstract, in which he develops strict forms and metaphorical spaces. In his Norwegian studio, Askeland creates a complex interplay of shapes, colors, light, texture and structure, that dances along the surface of his abstract expressionist images. Far from being simple studies of, or homage to, these elements, he expresses a wonderful complexity in his compositions (of gardens, abstract and geometric forms..), made intelligible by a united language of line and color. His works invite the eye into the depths with subtle transparency. His series in yellow, blue and gray are strongly characterized by his ability to out together precise events and convert them into exceptionally beatiful harmony.
