Picatoste’s rich imagination, with particular emphasis on the psychology of colour, works as a reverberation, as a specular landscape, but one that contains the visual memory of the artist and his performance-like activity in the studio. His art practice from recent years reveals a pronounced alchemy in the research and production processes, something he refers to as “the crystallisation of the gesture”. The methacrylate media used by the artist also act as crystalline or reflective surfaces, a mirror/container of reality, which comes to form part of the work itself. His work can be seen as a grand orchestration and celebration of the pictorial, a blossoming of freedom, that reflects a powerful plastic personality and connects with Post-picturial Abstraction. Picatoste is the recipient of numerous art prizes and awards and his art has entered various collection including the SETAI Fifth Avenue, New York; the Institut Francais, Madrid; The Goss Michael Foundation, Dallas; The Gabarron Foundation, New York; La Caixa Foundation and the Pilar and Joan Miro Foundation in Mallorca. His artworks have been shown at many international art fairs from ARCO Contemporary Art Fair, Art Marbella, Art Cologne in Germany, Artissima in Italy and SP art in São Paulo to Art Miami or Pinta and Pulse NYC in New York.
